Hello, my name is Elliot Barnes and I’m the PE teacher here at Laurelhurst since October 2018. The PE program at Laurelhurst Elementary is based on the district’s adopted curriculum called ‘Five for Life.’ This includes units and activities based on the 5 Components of Health Related Fitness (Cardio-Respiratory Endurance, Muscular Strength and Endurance, Flexibility and Body Composition), healthy eating and life habits, fitness and goal setting. In teaching these components and habits we work with many activities and sports, including soccer, basketball, unicycling, bicycling, archery, racket sports and scooters, among others. We aim to develop life-long habits and skills in our students to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Over the summer the Laurelhurst gym was retrofitted with steel beams and structures to support the walls. While construction went into the start of school, we are very thankful for this work and happy to be back in the gym for class, looking forward to another great school year.
